Junior Street Keepers
Childrens Mentoring Program
RECLAIMING OUR COMMUNITIES ONE BLOCK AT A TIME!
WE ALL KNOW THE POWER OF CHANGE, BUT WE DID NOT KNOW THAT 8 TO 17 YEAR OLDS COULD CHANGE THE ENVIRONMENT OF A CITY BLOCK:
ULTIMATELY CHANGING THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD AND COMMUNITY!
With bi-weekly cleanings, The (Newkirk) Junior Street Keepers have reshaped their block into a “village.” Working as a team, utilizing the principles of respect, commitment, teamwork, punctuality, reliability, diversity, and conflict resolution. They are learning life skills most learn later in life. By learning to maintain their block, they have acquired and require others to respect the place they call home. The residents and local businesses are so impressed with the JSK's work that they make monthly donations to provide their stipends, buy supplies, and assist with their annual field trips! The Junior Street Keepers have become the force needed to reclaim the streets of Philadelphia one block at a time!

29th Street & Hunting Park Avenue
A community partnership has transformed an area once notorious for dumping and littering.
The first clean-up was massive!
CENOVA Inc. - maintains the grass.
The (Newkirk) Junior Street Keepers clean the area from trash and debris monthly.
Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee (PBMC) monitors the site for dumping and picks up trash after each cleaning!
Amazing Things Happen When We Work Together to Beautify Our Community!

Thank you so much!
WOW!
In a very short period of time, this small block in North Philadelphia is showing our youth
and community the importance of civic engagement and the positive IMPACT it has.
